Odisha Jaguars are really struggling in the tournament so far with only one win to their name in 8 completed matches. In their recent encounter with Odisha Lions, they won the toss and elected to bat first. Shamsul Khan provided a great start to Jaguars as he smashed his way to 29 runs in just 26 deliveries that included a huge six. G Chandrashekhar also contributed well with the bat for his 10 runs but consumed as many as 27 balls for this feat causing the run rate to suffer a little.
The opening partnership was broken by Nauttam Bhanja, who picked up the top 3 batsmen of Odisha Jaguars in quick succession and Jaguars went from 41 for 0 to 57 for 3 in no time. Chinmay Sahoo and Rakesh Pattanaik followed Bhanja’s lead and chipped in with important wickets in the middle order of Jaguars. In the end, Odisha Jaguars could only manage 99 runs from their complete quota of 20 overs.
Defending 99, Manoj Kashyap and Nihar Bhuyan provided the start that Jaguars needed by removing the pair of opening batsmen at a total of 12. Post that, Rakesh Pattanaik and Sujit Skhetra Lenka tried to steady the ship with their partnership of 29 runs that proved to be very handy.
After Lenka was dismissed, Nauttam Bhanja joined hands with Rakesh Pattanaik to chase the total with no hassle. They put on an unbeaten stand of 61 runs for the 4th wicket to take their team home with 7 wickets in hand and 23 balls to spare. Nauttam Bhanja made a very good looking 23 off 23 deliveries and was adjudged the man of the match for his incredible performance with both bat and bowl.
Odisha Panthers on the other hand are going forward in the tournament with complete dominance as they have already won 7 out of 8 games played so far. They are more than certain to make it into the Semi Finals.
In their last game against Odisha Cheetahs, they lost the toss and were asked to field first. The Panthers bowling unit did not disappoint a single bit as they kept the Cheetahs batsmen quiet in the powerplay over that led to a regular fall of wickets.
Alok Chandra Sahoo removed the in-form Maroju Prasanth while Pradeep Pradhan claimed the important wickets of Anurag Sarangi and Ramachandra Behera to peg back the progress of Cheetahs further. The middle order of Cheetahs failed miserably and none of their batsmen seemed to threaten or counter attack Panthers by any means. It was due to the resilient knock by Badal Bhol towards the death overs that Cheetahs reached a total of 97 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing a small total of 97, Odisha Panthers followed a cautious approach after losing Sparsh Somani and Nisikanta Rout in quick succession. Binit Mohanty and Ankit Singh played very well for their partnership of 51 runs for the 3rd wicket to seal the fate of Cheetahs. Binit Mohanty was dismissed for 25 after putting his team in a good position.
Abhishek Yadav took over from where Mohanty left and did well to rotate the strike while also keeping the required rate under check. Ankit Singh scored 38 runs off 52 balls and remained unbeaten to win the game for his team by 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare. He was adjudged man of the match for his patient match winning performance with the bat.
