Odisha Lions are currently placed on the number 4 spot in points table with 2 wins to their name out of 5 matches played. Playing against Odisha Tigers in their last completed fixture, they won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a terrible start as they lost their opening batsman Durgaprasad Behera for a golden duck. Rakesh Patnaik and Swastik Samal soon followed the suit by losing their wickets before the powerplay overs. At one point, the scoreboard flashed 37 for 3 in the 6^th over. Nauttam Bhanja and Sujit Skhetra Lenka thereafter tried to revive the innings with their stand of 43 runs for the 4^th wicket. It gave the much needed momentum to Lions innings that was later capitalized by Deepak Behera who smashed 27 off 17 balls in the death overs to take the team total to 147 for 9 in 20 overs.

After putting on a respectable total of 147, it was all over to the bowlers of Odisha Lions to finish the job. Alok Mangaraj who has been recently added to the squad made his presence felt by picking up two important wickets at the top of the order and crippled the Tiger’s start to the chase. Sibasish Sahoo too bowled his heart out and chipped in with 2 wickets. At one point, Odisha Tigers were reeling at 16 for 4 and needed a heroic effort to rescue them from the situation. Amin Khan and Harshit Rathod tried their best to bail their team out with 15 and 27 runs respectively but they were always running out of steam with the required rate mounting up. The lower order could not contribute much as Tigers were restricted for 80 runs in 20 overs, losing the game by a big margin of 67 runs.

Odisha Panthers on the other hand are resting nicely at the top position on points table with 5 wins to their name in the 6 matches played so far. The only loss they suffered was at the hands of Odisha Pumas in the last game they played. After losing the toss, Panthers were asked to field first. Pumas lost Illu Gochhayat and Purnachandra Majhi early on in the innings, courtesy a great spell bowled by Pradeep Pradhan. After the fall of 2 wickets, Tukuna Sahoo and Sandeep Patnaik provided the much needed steam to Pumas innings as they stitched a partnership of 62 runs for the 3^rd wicket. Aravinda Singh in the lower middle order cashed in on the platform set by Sandeep Patnaik and smashed 20 runs off 15 balls. None of the other batsmen fought hard as Pumas put on 138 for 9 in 20 overs.

With the form Panthers were in, the chase seemed to be an easy one. However, Sparsh Somani, Ankit Singh and Binit Mohanty were all dismissed by the 7^th over leaving their team in tatters. Alok Chandra Sahoo soon followed them into the pavilion with the scoreboard reading 46 for 4. Post that, Abhishek Yadav and Ranjit Paikaray tried to steady the ship with a stand of 32 runs for the 5^th wicket but the run rate had already touched the sky by then. Both Yadav and Paikaray ran themselves out and left too much to do for the lower order. In the end, Panthers were bowled out for 108 in the 20^th over and lost the game by a margin of 30 runs.
