LIVE - Odisha Panthers and Odisha Lions- Match 34
Odisha Lions have registered an emphatic win over Odisha Pumas to book a seat in the Final against Odisha Panthers. In the recently concluded game, they won the toss and decided to have a bat first against Pumas.
Swastik Samal batted out of his skin to belt the Pumas bowlers to all parts of the ground. He lost his opening partner Subhrajyoti Mishra early on in the innings. However, after an early breakthrough Rakesh Pattanaik along with Swastik Samal resurrected the innings and put on a stand of 37 runs for the 2nd wicket. Pattanaik perished for 16 runs and he was replaced by Sujit Skhetra Lenka who looked in sublime touch. He played the supporting hand by giving most of the strike to Samal who did not miss out on any loose balls delivered. Both of them put on an unbeaten 111 run stand for the 3rd wicket and ensured that Lions got to a massive total of 172 for 2 in 20 overs. Swastik Samal made a fantastic century as he scored 110 runs off 68 deliveries that included 7 monstrous sixes.
Defending 172, the Lions bowling unit did not want to give away freebies to the Pumas early on in the innings. Pumas lost Illu Gochhayat at a total of 5 runs as he was dismissed by a peach of a delivery by Sibasish Sahoo. He also removed Tukuna Sahoo, Aravinda Singh and Pratik Anurag Das in quick succession to put extreme pressure on to the opposition. At this point, Pumas were already 4 down for 34 runs. After Sibasish Sahoo finished his 4 over spell with 4 wickets, Bikash Rout ran through the middle order of Pumas picking up important 3 wickets. The other bowlers too exerted immense pressure on the lower order and there was no chance left for the Pumas to come out of the troubled waters. Except for the last wicket partnership of 36 runs, there was no fight shown by any other Pumas batsmen and they simply surrendered with 97 all out on the board. They lost the match by a huge margin of 75 runs and Lions entered the Final to face Panthers.
Odisha Panthers on the other hand have been phenomenal with their performance in the tournament. They finished at the top of the points table and deservingly made it into the Final of the tournament. In their recently concluded match against Odisha Tigers, Panthers won the toss and asked Tigers to have a bat first. Basant Mohanty held the Tigers batsmen by a leash as he did not give them any opportunity to score in the opening overs. This led to an extreme pressure on the Tigers to push the run rate and they lost wickets in quick succession to Jayanta Behera and Subham Naik.
Jayanta provided the early breakthrough by dismissing the in-form Rupak Pradhan while Subham picked up the prized wicket of Ayush Naik. Post that, Debasish Ashok Samantray and Dibyashakti Chakrabarty steadied the ship and put on a stand of 43 runs for the 3rd wicket. However, after both of them lost their wickets, there was no real momentum in the innings as middle order looked to save their wicket rather than going for a big score. Sanjay Das made a good looking 17 runs in the lower order but lack of support from the other end meant that Tigers finished their innings with a total of 117 for 9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 117, Panthers lost both their openers Ankit Singh and Sidhant Jena without troubling the scorers much. Nisikantha Rout too followed the suit when he was removed by Harshit Rathod off a beauty. Thereafter, Binit Mohanty and Abhishek Yadav took the responsibility of taking their team home and stitched an important partnership of 21 runs for the 4th wicket. Ranjit Paikaray picked up from where Mohanty left and played a supporting role to Abhishek Yadav who reached his half century in no time. In the end, Alok Chandra Sahoo who made 16 off 12 and Abhishek Yadav took their team home with only 1 ball to spare and 5 wickets in hand. Abhishek Yadav was adjudged man of the match for his breathtaking effort of 50 runs in 39 balls in a winning cause.
