Cricket Match Predictions: Odisha Cricket League 2020-21 (OCL T20): Odisha Tigers and Odisha Panthers- Match 31
The 31st match of the Odisha Cricket League will be played between Odisha Tigers and Odisha Panthers at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
Odisha Panthers have won 8 out of 9 games played so far and are undoubtedly the best team in the tournament. They are occupying the first spot on points table and are pretty certain to make it into the Semi-Finals.
In their last encounter against Odisha Jaguars, Panthers lost the toss and were asked to have a bat first. They got off to a terrible start by losing 2 of the top order batsmen without troubling the scorers. Both Krushna Barik and Nisikanta Rout were dismissed by Manoj Kashyap for a golden duck. Ankit Singh and Ranjit Paikaray then tried to hold the partnership together and accumulated 24 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Both Ranjit Paikaray and Ankit Singh were dismissed in quick intervals leaving the onus to the lower middle order. Abhishek Yadav and Alok Chandra Sahoo played sensibly and did not miss out on the opportunities to steal the singles and doubles wherever available. Alok Chandra Sahoo made 30 runs off 31 deliveries and Abhishek Yadav made 22 off 22. Chandramani Biswal played a blinder of 17 runs towards the end to take the team’s total to 111 for 6 in 20 overs.
Defending 111, Jaguars lost their prime in-form batsman Shamsul Khan for a duck. Post that, Girija Rout and Kshyama Bal steadied the ship and put on a stand of 26 runs for the 2nd wicket before Jayanta Behera claimed the prized wicket of Rout. Kshyama Bal too was dismissed soon after scoring a good looking 28 off 22 deliveries. The middle order failed miserably as Sunil Sahoo, Nirbishankar Barik and Bibhu Mallick perished for a paltry 4, 0 and 1 respectively.
After the dismissal of Sunil Sahoo, the scorecard read 59 for 6 and Jaguars looked in big trouble. Rasmi Sahoo and Anwesh Das tried to resurrect the innings with their knocks of 17 and 14 respectively but they were not enough as Jaguars were bowled out for 107 in the end, losing the thriller of a match by a small margin of 4 runs. Alok Chandra Sahoo was adjudged man of the match for his all round performance throughout the game.
Odisha Tigers on the other hand have won 4 out of 9 games played so far and are placed at the number 4 position on points table.
In their recently concluded game against Odisha Pumas, Tigers lost the toss and were asked to field first. Pratik Anurag Das and Sandeep Patnaik opted for a rather cautious start and could not fully utilize the powerplay overs. Shekhar Majhi picked up Sandeep Patnaik at 6, while Pratik Anurag Das and Purnachandra Majhi were dismissed in quick succession by Minal Parida. At this point, the scoreboard read 23 for 3 in the 6th over.
The matters went from bad to worse as the next batsmen Tukuna Sahoo and Aravinda Singh too lost their wicket without troubling the scorers and Pumas were further reduced to 38 for 5 in the 11th over. Pumas urgently needed a miracle innings and it was indeed provided by Prayash K Singh, who smashed his way to 54 in just 35 deliveries. It was a brilliant innings that included 4 huge sixes and changed the course of the game. Due to such amazing effort from Prayash, Pumas put on a total of 104 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 104, Odisha Tigers lost Rupak Pradhan and Amin Khan early on in the innings. Post that, Dibyashakti Chakrabarty and Debasish Ashok Samantray pulled Tigers back into the game by doing an important partnership of 23 runs for the 3rd wicket. The run out dismissal of Dibyashakti Chakrabarty further dented the progress of Tigers in the chase.
It was worsened by the dismissal of Rakesh Goachhayat and Debasish Ashok Samantray off a brilliant bowling by Tukuna Sahoo. Rajkishan Patel and Harshit Rathod then joined hands to take their team over the line by doing a 19 run partnership but it was cut short after Rathod perished to Prasantha Rana. Rajkishan Patel held one end strong but a regular fall of wickets at the other end impacted the run scoring and eventually, Tigers fell short just by 2 runs as they finished with a total of 102 for 8 in their 20 overs. Prayash K Singh was declared man of the match for his supreme batting performance.
