All the Latest news, Scores and Updates from day 3 of the Cricket World Dice Cricket County Championship Round 10 – Division 1 - Northants stun Lancashire with 6 wicket win.....
Essex v Somerset
Somerset 326/9 dec (Hildreth 78*, S Cook 3/89) & 288ao (Hildreth 52, Gregory 108, Quinn 5/84)
Essex 173ao (A Cook 62, Gregory 4/29) & 161/8 (Porter 59*, C Overton 4/43)
Lewis Gregory came to Somerset's assistance with the bat on Day 3 as he scored a timely 108 and looking very comfortable and in control against a faltering Essex attack. He was supported ably by first Bess (30) and then Brookes who had fun with his 52 towards the end of the innings.
Essex again underperformed with the bat in the second half of the day. It was a dreadful start for the hosts, losing the two openers to first ballers, with Westley, Lawrence and ten Doeschate all following in quick succession.
Porter remains on 59* but C Overton has his tail up with 4/43 as Essex close on 161/8 on the brink of a heavy defeat.
Northamptonshire v Lancashire
Lancashire 155/ao (Jennings 87, Glover 5/34) & 205ao (Onions 38*, Sanderson 6/77)
Northamptonshire 237ao (Sanderson 56, Onions 4/69) & 124/4 (Newton 47, Anderson 2/40)
Result – Northants won by 6 wickets
Despite the best efforts of Anderson (2/40) and Mahmood (1/46) Northants waltzed to a 6 wicket victory with Newton again contributing to the Northants effort with 47. A trip to forget for Lancashire who will welcome the break and look to come back stronger in a month's time.
Surrey v Hampshire
Surrey 239ao (Burns 78, Fuller 3/5) & 342ao (Pope 71, Clarke 74, Taylor 5/104)
Hampshire 236ao (Northeast 67, Clarke 4/46) & 170/5 (Organ 62, S Curran 2/72)
Rikke Clarke, after his heroics with the ball, came to Surrey's rescue with the bat in scoring a quickfire 74 to life the hosts up towards 350 and piling on the pressure for Hampshire. Taylor recorded a five wicket haul with his 5/104, but several missed chances may cost Hampshire as they left the ground tonight 170/5 with a mountain to climb tomorrow.
Organ contributed with 62, but has gone exposing the tail. They are a little under half way there, but with a nervous lower order waiting for their turn to bat, Surrey will not hold back with the fire power tomorrow.
Warwickshire v Kent
Warwickshire 279ao (Stone 66*, Podmore 5/96) & 208ao (Hain 35, Podmore 5/84)
Kent 323/7 dec (Crawley 85, Norwell 5/49) & 107/4 (Bell-Drummond 30*, Stone 2/49)
A fantastic bowling performance from Kent restricted the Warwickshire batters to just 208 on day 3 with Hain top scoring with 35. Harry Podmore bowled beautifully to record figures of 5/84.
Warwickshire had no answer and look to be out of the game with a session and a full day still to go. Kent finished the day on 107/4 and whilst they only require a further 58 to win tomorrow, a few early wickets and Warwickshire can still get something out of this. Bell-Drummond holds the key for Kent and will resume on 30* in the morning.
Yorkshire v Gloucestershire
Yorkshire 211ao (Malan 95, Payne 4/30) & 433/6 dec (Ballance 128, Drissell 3/109)
Gloucestershire 218ao (Payne 48, Patterson 3/27) & 97/5 (Roderick 28*, Coad 3/47)
Yorkshire enjoyed their day in the sun in Cheltenham on a flat wicket today and celebrated vociferously as Ballance (128) recorded a glorious hundred in Yorkshire's effort of 433/6 declared. It was a painful day for the bowlers with Drissell being the most effective with his 3/109. After a stint in the field like that it can be easy to carry over the performance to the next innings, and such was the story here.
By the close, Gloucestershire crumbled to 97/5 well over 300 runs behind with a day to bat and only 5 wickets in hand. Yes, the pitch is flat, but it will take a miracle for Gloucester to get anywhere near this score tomorrow.
