Virtual County Championship - DIVISION ONE
Kent v Surrey: venue Canterbury
Kent 249ao (Billings 42, S Curran 3/48) & 94/7 (Blake 32*, S Curran 4/45)
Surrey 282ao (Amla 61, Stevenson 3/82)
Amla (64) and some late order runs from Clarke (55) were the highlights in a disappointing card for Surrey in which Stevenson shone with 3/82. Other wickets were shared around and the Surrey batters never got to grips with the tight Kent bowling.
282 all out was another under par score on what was turning out to be a tricky scoring wicket. Something happened to the pitch after tea, however, and by the close, Kent had all but collapsed to 94/7 with S Curran doing most of the damage with 4/45.
It will be up to the tail to get Kent a large enough lead tomorrow to give the bowlers something to work with.
Warwickshire v Hampshire: venue Edgbaston
Hampshire 349/9 dec (Rossouw 118, Hannon-Dalby 4/74) & 112/4 (Woakes 2/55, Organ 44)
Warwickshire 214ao (Hain 41, Dawson 6/49)
It was a slightly sluggish Warwickshire top order who mostly got good starts but failed to capitalise. Captain Rhodes could only watch as wickets fell regularly but he stood resolute until he was trapped in front my Barker for a well made 89.
It was Dawson for the visitors who put Hampshire into a large 1st innings lead with figures of 6/49 in the Warwickshire total of just 214. Warwickshire have Hampshire in trouble at the end of teh day however as Woakes swung the ball beautifully to help reduce Hampshire to 112/4.
Essex v Gloucestershire: venue Chelmsford
Essex 277ao (Cook 134, Shaw 4/72) & 70/0 (A Cook 45*)
Gloucestershire 268ao (van Buuren 46, Porter 4/61)
The runs were shared around for Gloucestershire on Day 2 with van Buuren scoring a well made 46. He was one of 4 batters who got themselves into the 40s before falling short of a half century.
Gloucester will look back on the day feeling that they should have made more of the starts and the still beautiful batting conditions. S Cook 4/61 was the pick for Essex, regularly beating the bat with pace and some late movement.
In reply, Cook carried his good form ending the day 45* in the total of 70/0 and Essex are very well placed moving into day 3.
Somerset v Northamptonshire: venue Taunton
Somerset 248ao (Banton 114, Procter 5/49) & 18/0 (Hildreth 17*)
Northants 331ao (Wakely 78, Bess 5/94)
Alex Wakely led the way for Northants and taking them into a first innings lead. Newton got to a fifty after earlier starting the day on 37 and Rossington too contributed with 59 helped along by the wagging Northants tail.
Dom Bess looks in good form and his haul 5 wickets, although costing 94, could have been greater as he created plenty chances throughout the day. Northants were unable to take any late wickets before the close on day 2 and Somerset finished on 18/0.
