Virtual County Championship - DIVISION ONE
Kent v Surrey: venue Canterbury
Match Summary
Kent 249ao (Billings 42, S Curran 3/48) & 180ao (Podmore 55*, S Curran 6/77)
Surrey 282ao (Amla 61, Stevenson 3/82) & 149/6 (Amla 64, Abbott 2/33)
Result – Surrey won by 4 wickets
Points – Surrey (21) , Kent (4)
Thanks to a fine 55* from Podmore, in support of Blake (52), Kent got up to somewhere near a nasty little total for the Surrey batters to chase. Sam Curran looks to be putting himself in a good place with the England selectors with a timely 6/77.
For Surrey, the wheels nearly fell off but thanks to Amla hitting a much needed 64, Surrey got across the line with 4 wickets remaining.
Warwickshire v Hampshire: venue Edgbaston
Match Summary
Hampshire 349/9 dec (Rossouw 118, Hannon-Dalby 4/74) & 303/9 dec (Dawson 84, Woakes 2/71)
Warwickshire 214 ao (Hain 41, Dawson 6/49) & 131/6 (Rhodes 37, Stevenson 4/71)
Dawson continued to enjoy his time at Edgbaston and to go with his wickets in the first innings, he added a fine 84 runs to the Hampshire 2nd Innings total of 303.
A target of 430+ looks to be way out of reach for Warwickshire in the time remaining in this game, and by the close they have collapsed to 131/6 with Stevenson on song for Hampshire taking 4/71 including a hattrick. Woakes and Hannon Dalby are in for Warwickshire with a stand of 40 to their names and are the last hope for Warwickshire going into the final day.
Essex v Gloucestershire: venue Chelmsford
Match Summary
Essex 277 ao (Cook 134, Shaw 4/72) & 270 ao (Harmer 56, Drissell 5/77)
Gloucestershire 268ao (van Buuren 46, Porter 4/61) & 126/5 (Hammond 46, Siddle 3/43)
With Cook and Browne going early on day 3, the pressure was on the middle order to deliver a lead that Essex could shift the balance and return the pressure to the Gloucester batters. Harmer made a valuable 56 in the lower order, and the tail added a few crucial runs, but Essex will rue the missed opportunities to go on to make a big total.
Whilst Essex have got themselves back into the game by the end of the day, with Gloucester on 126/5, with just 104 to win on the last day with 5 wickets remaining and Roderick and Higgins well set, the signs are good for Gloucestershire tomorrow.
Somerset v Northamptonshire: venue Taunton
Match Summary
Somerset 248ao (Banton 114, Procter 5/49) & 222 ao (Banton 55, Glover 6/61)
Northants 331ao (Wakely 78, Bess 5/94) & 93/4 (Cobb 55*, C Overton 3/38)
Result – Northants won by 6 wickets
Points – Northants (22) , Somerset (4)
Banton again got going but was halted on 55 as Buck tore through his defences to remove his off stump. It was Glover though who put Northants into a winning position with a fantastic spell of bowling which earned him 6/61 and helped in dismissing Somerset for a below par 222, leaving just 140 for a Northants victory.
Despite the efforts of C Overton (3/38), Cobb with a quickfire 69 took Northants to the line at a canter.
