The first Sandals Test match is intriguingly poised with one day left to play at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Sri Lanka dominated the fourth day on Wednesday and scored 476 in the second innings – with a patient, maiden century on debut by Pathum Nissanka (103) and Niroshan Dickwella (96).

The pair added a record 179 for the sixth wicket and Nissanka became the first Sri Lankan to make a century away from home in his first match. He eventually fell to a catch by Kemar Roach from the bowling of off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall, who ended with 3-137 off a marathon 42.5 overs. Roach had the best figures of 3-74 off 27 overs to end the match with six wickets – following up his 3-47 off 16 overs in the first innings.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today announced the scheduled match dates for England’s next tour of the Caribbean in 2022. It represents an expanded schedule to the original International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Tours Programme (FTP).

The January 2022 Tour will now feature five T20 Internationals (T20Is) – increased from three matches – to be followed by England returning to the Caribbean for three Test matches in March – increased from the original two Test matches.

The Test series will be the first in which the two teams compete for the newly commissioned “Richards-Botham Trophy,” named in honour of West Indies’ batting icon Sir Vivian Richards and England’s great all-rounder Lord Botham. The new trophy pays tribute to the two legends whose rivalry and friendship embodies the close relationship and mutual respect between the two sides.

Cricket Ireland gratefully acknowledges Sport Ireland's support as €197K distributed to cricket clubs and unions

The Board of Cricket Ireland praised Sport Ireland for its support for the Irish sporting sector during a challenging year, after it recently approved the allocation of €197,500 in grants to 31 cricket clubs and Provincial Unions across Ireland.

In late 2020, Sport Ireland announced a €70M fund to support Irish sport in the Republic of Ireland, with one component of the overall fund aimed specifically at projects that supported clubs and affiliates who may be experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19 and who would need financial assistance to maintain operations.

Cricket was allocated €197K by Sport Ireland, and in December 2020 a scheme was opened for cricket clubs to submit grant applications, overseen by Cricket Ireland with input from Provincial Unions. After information sessions were held for interested parties, a total of 31 clubs eventually made submissions, with Cricket Leinster and Munster Cricket also making submissions.

African Premier League (APL) to be streamed live to UK audiences via Recast

One of cricket’s most hotly anticipated new T20 competitions – the Dafabet African Premier League (APL) – will be shown exclusively to UK viewers through revolutionary sports broadcasting platform Recast.

The brand-new six-team APL – which aims to be the premier T20 league on the African continent within four years – will be played in Nairobi from March 25 to April 10 and will feature 33 live matches, streamed directly and exclusively, to fans in the UK.

The APL will be the first live tournament to be broadcast on the ground-breaking platform, which launched in BETA earlier this year and follows hot on the heels of other pioneering rights’ holders who are going direct-to-consumer on Recast, including Hibernian FC and the World Parkour Championship.

The inaugural competition will prove a showcase for the best emerging talent in Kenyan cricket, with T20 specialists from other African nations, also taking part. It will also provide more cricket action for UK fans following the conclusion of the England vs India test series, and fit neatly around T20 matches between the two countries.
