VIVO IPL 2021 has been postponed with immediate effect

The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect.

The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind.

These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times.

The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021.

The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried their best to organise IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times.

PCB unveils parental support policy for cricketers

PCB unveils parental support policy for cricketers
PCB unveils parental support policy for cricketers

Pakistan Cricket Board today announced its Parental Support Policy targeted to motivate and champion professional cricketers in their journey to parenthood – throughout pregnancy and even after childbirth when they return to play and are required to balance their parental responsibilities with the demands of their cricketing career.

Under the newly introduced policy, women and men players have been granted various rights that they are respectively entitled to avail during the pregnancy and upon the birth of their child.

Included within the policy is the option for women cricketers to transfer to a non-playing role until commencement of their maternity leave leading up to the birth of their child.

Women cricketers are also entitled to take up to 12 months of paid maternity leave and will be guaranteed a contract extension for the following year, in line with their existing contractual arrangements as the PCB believes that a player’s right to pursue the game on a professional level should not be limited because of their pregnancy or responsibilities as a new parent.

Upon conclusion of the maternity leave, the player will be reintegrated into cricketing activities and provided adequate medical and physical support in respect of their post-childbirth rehabilitation.

Similarly, if a woman player is required to travel for cricketing activities, the PCB will support the player by allowing her to travel with a support person of her choice to assist in caring for her infant child, with the travel and accommodation costs to be shared equally.

Men cricketers, who are expectant or new fathers, will also be entitled to up to 30 days of fully paid leave, which will need to be taken within 56 days of the birth of their child, as part of the paternity rights covered under the Policy.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “The PCB has a duty of care towards its cricketers and at every turn it has taken measures to support them. In this relation, it is appropriate that we have a player-friendly parental support policy so that our professional cricketers can feel fully supported during an important stage in their lives, without worrying about their careers.

“To have this policy for our women cricketers was even more significant. Women play a pivotal role in the development of a society and our women cricketers have brought us laurels and recognition at the world stage.

“Now that we have maternity leave policy, I am hopeful that it will attract more women and girls to take up the sport as this will help them strike the crucial work-life balance.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians, 31st Match, Indian Premier League

Sunrisers Hyderabad find themselves in a tight spot at the halfway stage.

Live Scores and Stats - SRH vs MI Match 31 IPL 2021

Williamson replaces Warner as SRH captain

After 7 matches, Hyderabad have just one victory and will have to win at least 6 of their remaining 7 matches in order to have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs, which seems highly unlikely at the moment.

What has not helped their cause is a sudden change in leadership. David Warner is one of the leading all-time batting greats in the IPL apart from being among the most successful captains. Him being sacked midway is not a great sign for Hyderabad.

Warner's axing opens up an overseas spot

However, after the team had lost five of their first six matches under Warner's leadership and was struggling to get the overseas combination right, Hyderabad was actually not left with many options. Under Warner's captaincy, with the skipper and leading leg spinner Rashid Khan being lock-in players, SRH were left with just two more slots which went to the in-form Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson, and the team could afford just one overseas bowler.

Now, with Warner being removed from captaincy and even dropped from the playing XI, it opens up an overseas slot which will go to an all-rounder. After Mohammad Nabi failed to impress in the last match, Jason Holder is likely to take up that spot from this match onwards.

While that will certainly improve the balance of Hyderabad, they will find it extremely tough to make up for what an experienced head like David Warner brings to the table.

Bhuvi, Samad fail to make instant impact

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Abdul Samad returned to the SRH playing XI in the last match after recovering from their respective injuries, but failed to make an impact.

The likes of Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar have not been able to do anything out of the ordinary either.

Mumbai begin to come to their own

Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings on the final ball in their last encounter, courtesy of a Pollard special. Even then, the team would know that they are nowhere close to their best.

Mumbai made a couple of tactical changes in their playing XI in the last match, bringing in Dhawal Kulkarni and Jimmy Neesham in their playing XI. Although the two players were not able to do what was expected of them, the Rohit Sharma-led side is likely to stick to them for a couple of matches.

Here are the predicted playing XIs:

Sunrisers Hyderabad
 - Jonny Bairstow (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed

Mumbai Indians - Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, James Neesham, Rahul Chahar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
