Match Preview : Gros Islet Cannon Blasters vs Soufriere Sulphir, St. Lucia T10 2021:  Match 16

The 16th match of the St. Lucia T10 Blast 2021 will take place between  Soufriere Sulphir and Gros Islet Cannon Blasters at the Daren Sammy cricket ground, St. Lucia.

LIVE - Gros Islet Cannon Blasters vs Soufriere Sulphir - Match 16

Current Form Soufriere Sulphir:

Soufriere Sulphir took a beating in their last fixture against Babonneau Leatherbacks. Fielding first, they conceded 101 for 2 in 10 overs. Thomas Caleb started off well for Babonneau Leatherbacks as he struck 26 off 18 at the top of the order. The captain Shervon Joseph played a skipper's knock of 39 and remained unbeaten to take the team's total past 100.

After a brilliant display of batting by Babonneau Leatherbacks, it was all over to their bowlers to defend a 100+ total and they delivered very well. Soufriere Sulphir lost 3 early wickets at a total of 20 runs. They were really struggling when Xytus Emmanuel gave his team a glim hope with his kncok of 26 in 13 balls. He was unfortunately dimsissed by a run out and Soufriere Sulphir could never make a come back in the game. They were restricted to 90 for 8 in 10 overs, losing the match by 11 runs.

Current Form Gros Islet Cannon Blasters:

After a thumping win in their first game, Gros Islet Cannon Blasters have been defeated in their second match of the tournament by Mon Repos Stars.

Losing the toss, Gros Islet Cannon Blasters were asked to field first. The bowlers started off very well and picked up 2 early wickets at a total of 15 with Kevin Augustin already back in the hut. For most part of the innings, Mon Repos Stars seemed to be struggling to reach even 80+. However, Hazel Charlery snatched the momentum from the bowling team with his knock of 34 in 16 balls to take his team to a defendable total of 97 for 4 in 10 overs.

Chasing 97, Gros Islet Cannon Blasters lost their captain Kimani Melius early on. Khan Elcock and Jard Goodman stitched an important partnership of 38 runs for the 2nd wicket. After the partnership was broken, Gros Islet Cannon Blasters innings seemed to be going nowhere with the run rate mounting up with each delivery. Lee Solomon ignited an optimism with his cameo of 29 in 13 balls but he was unable to take Gros Islet Cannon Blasters over the line as they fell short by 6 runs.

Let's have a look at the squads:

Gros Islet Cannon Blasters: Jard Goodman, Kimani Melius, Zidane Arthur, Dornan Edward, Kymani Sexius, Tyrel Chicot, Larry Edwards, Lee Solomon, Khan Elcock, Dalton Polius (c), Bolton Sayers, Jeandell Cyril, Ryan Goodman, Udell Preville, Rouce Paul, Vidal Crandon (wk), Vernillius Gabriel (wk)

Match Preview: St. Lucia T10 2021: South Castries Lions vs Central Castries- Match 15

The 15th match of the St. Lucia T10 Blast 2021 will take place between  South Castries Lions and Central Castries at the Daren Sammy cricket ground, St. Lucia.

LIVE - South Castries Lions vs Central Castries- Match 15

Current Form Central Castries:

Central Castries were outplayed by Vieux Fort North Raiders in their last fixture. Batting first, they were restricted for a miserly 82 on the board in 10 overs. Gaspard Prospere started off well with his knock of 25 in16 deliveries. After his dismissal, Central Castries simply lost the plot and lost wickets in quick succession that hampered their run rate. Dwight Thomas played a cameo of 27 in the death overs to help add extra 10 runs to the total. Johann Williams picked up 2 wickets for just 6 runs in his spell.

Chasing 82, Vieux Fort North Raiders were quite aggressive from the word go with their opener Tariq Gabriel smashing the bowlers to all parts of the ground. A good batting display by Vieux Fort North Raiders was accompanied by an ordinary bowling by Central Castries. They conceded many runs in the form of extras and that made a huge difference between both the teams. In the end, Vieux Fort North Raiders chased the target in the 7th over with 7 wickets in hand.

Current Form South Castries Lions

South Castries Lions were beaten comprehensively by Micoud Eagles in the last match they played. Batting first, they lost opener Johnson Charles early on in the innings and found themselves under pressure. Micoud Eagles did not give away any freebies to the batters, and hence the middle order really struggled to get going. In the end, they reached an under par total of 68 for 6 in 10 overs.

Micoud Eagles were cautious during the chase. However, the openers couldnt hold on to their wicket and were dismissed by the 4th over. Darren Sammy came in at number 4 and smashed 21 off 14 balls to ensure Micoud Eagles for a comfortable victory. In the end, Micoud Eagles chased the target in the 9th over with 6 wickets in hand.

Let's have a look at the squads:

PCB completes first phase of Covid-19 vaccination for players and support staff

The Pakistan Cricket Board has successfully completed the first phase of its Covid-19 vaccination drive in collaboration with Pakistan government’s National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

During this phase, Pakistan’s leading cricketers across all three formats and support staff were vaccinated.

The PCB takes pride in being one of the first cricket boards in the world to provide a robust vaccination programme to ensure the health and safety of its players and support staff in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

In the first phase, 57 men players, 13 officials of the men’s team and 13 NHPC men and women coaches were vaccinated. A number of franchise players and support staff besides PCB match officials involved in the February-March phase of the HBL Pakistan Super League (three match referees, three umpires) were also vaccinated.

The vaccination drive started on 4 March in Karachi and carried on for more than two months, before its conclusion on 6 May when eight players – part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing Test series against Zimbabwe – were given second doses in Harare.

Zimbabwe vs Pakistan 2nd Test Preview: Hosts need to play attritional cricket to challenge Pakistan

The Zimbabwe batsmen will have to bat for long durations in order to pose any challenge for a strong Pakistan side.

LIVE SCORES - Zimbabwe vs Pakistan 2nd Test

Zimbabwe's hopes come crashing down

Zimbabwe have only won three test matches to date against Pakistan. The first victory came in 1994 -95 when Pakistan won two out of the three matches of the test series. The next and the most historic test victory of Zimbabwe against Pakistan came in 1998-99 when they were successful in winning the three match series 1-0.

The most recent one was registered in 2013. That couple with Zimbabwe's recent form including their brilliant victory against Afghanistan gave hope to the Zimbabwe fans that the team can run Pakistan close in their home conditions.

However, after the way first test match turned out, those hopes have come crashing down.

Toss advantage squandered

Zimbabwe even had the advantage of winning the toss in the first match. All they had to do was to see off the the first session and allow the pitch to settle down.

Unfortunately, they were not able to do that as the team lost their first four wickets for just 30 runs within the first 18.2 overs with Prince Masvaure, Kevin Kasuza, Tarisai Musakanda and Brendan Taylor back in the hut in the first session itself.

From then on, the team was always behind the eight ball and Pakistan did not give them an opportunity to come back in the match.

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali were the best bowlers for Pakistan in the first innings and picked up four wickets each. They made brilliant use of the moisture on offer in the first innings and before Zimbabwe could make use of the slowness of the surface, half of the team was back in the pavilion.

There was some resistance on the likes of Milton Shumba, Roy Kaia and Donald Tiripano but not enough to take Zimbabwe to even 200.

Pakistan bat once, bat big

By the time Pakistan came out to bat, the pitch had settled down. Pakistan openers Imran Butt and Abid Ali made brilliant use of the conditions, adding 115 runs together. Abid Ali was the first Pakistan wicket to fall for a 144-ball 60.

Imran Butt missed out on a century as he was dismissed on 91 off a marathon 236 deliveries. Fawad Alam continued his rich vein of form, smashing 140 off 204 deliveries with 20 boundaries. Mohammad Rizwan gave him would support with 45 off 106 balls.

If Zimbabwe had any hope of wrapping up the Pakistan innings cheaply, Hasan Ali's 26-ball 30 meant that the team scored well past 400.

Despite Blessing Muzarabani's clean up job - he finished with four wickets from 31 overs while conceding 73 runs - Pakistan had enough in the bank to impose an innings victory.

Prince Masvaure's injury

Another setback for Zimbabwe was that opening batsman Prince Masvaure injured his hand while fielding and did not turn up in the second innings.

Regardless, Kevin Kasuza and Tarisai Musakanda added 48 runs for the opening partnership. At last, the scoreboard pressure and the class of the Pakistan bowling proved a bit too good for them.

Hasan Ali strikes again

Hasan Ali made a mark again in the second innings, taking a well deserved 5-wicket haul while giving away just 36 runs from his 12.2 overs. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 134 in their second innings and lost the match by an innings and 116 runs.

Ali was ecstatic as he received the Player of the Match award, "I have been doing very well in the nets, I am practicing batting as well. I have played in the whole first-class season and I am used to bowling in slow pitches. We didn't dominate the T20s, so put in a lot of effort here. I want to dedicate this award to my newborn daughter."

Sean Williams set to return

While Pakistan are unlikely to make any changes, Zimbabwe captain Sean Williams is expected to return in place of the injured opener Prince Masvaure for the second test.

Let's have a look at the probable playing XIs:

Zimbabwe
 - Kevin Kasuza, Tarisai Musakanda, Sean Williams (c), Brendan Taylor, Milton Shumba, Roy Kaia, Regis Chakabva (wk), Donald Tiripano, Tendai Chisoro, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava

Pakistan - Imran Butt, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam (c), Fawad Alam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Faheem Ashraf, Nauman Ali, Hasan Ali, Sajid Khan, Shaheen Afridi
