Cricket World Player of the Week - Andre Russell
He hasn't quite been the Andre Russell of his heyday but has still done enough to keep Kolkata Knight Riders afloat in IPL 2022.
Kolkata Knight Riders were gone for all money in the 61st match of IPL 2022 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Struggling at 94/5 in the 12th over, the team was on the path to another below-par total which would have meant not only a defeat but an ignominious exit for Kolkata from IPL 2022.
That is when Andre Russell joined hands with Sam Billings for a 63-run partnership to rescue the franchise. He accelerated later on and remained unbeaten on 49 off just 28 deliveries, scoring at a strike rate 175 with the help of three boundaries and four sixes.
Not only that, Russell showed his prowess with the ball as well and ended up being the team's highest wicket-taker with 3 wickets from his four overs while giving away just 22 runs.
In fact, he started Hyderabad's downfall with the wicket of captain Kane Williamson. Thus, Russell became not only the highest run-scorer for the side in the all-important match but the highest wicket-taker as well and was rightly awarded the Player of the Match.
From 13 outings in IPL 2022, Russell has scored 330 runs at a strike rate of 182.32 and picked up 17 wickets at an economy rate of 9.25.
