Cricket World Player of the Week - Faf du Plessis
When you are awarded the Player of the Match in an IPL final, you have not only played exceedingly well but handled pressure with panache.
Du Plessis struck a 59-ball 86 to help Chennai Super Kings lift their 4th IPL title as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final of IPL 2021 at the Dubai international Cricket Stadium in the UAE.
The former South African captain finished the league with 633 runs from 16 matches - the second highest in the tournament - just two runs behind teammate and opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad who clinched the orange cap with 635 runs.
Du Plessis averaged over 45 and struck at close to 140, which is the most you can ask of an opener.
The Protea struck six half-centuries in the tournament with the best of 95 not out. He was coming on the back of an impressive Caribbean Premier League performance.
Had he not been ruled out of competitive cricket after suffering a terrible concussion in the Pakistan Super League, the former South African captain was expected to do some big things in the inaugural edition of The Hundred as well.
There are sound reasons behind him not being part of the South African T20 World Cup squad, but the batter has shown that he still has some good years ahead of him as a T20 globetrotter.
