Cricket World Player of the Week - Mohammad Nawaz
Pakistan's spin bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been crucial to the team's success in the Asia Cup 2022 till now.
He is currently the joint-highest wicket-taker in the competition with seven scalps from three matches alongside Afghanistan's Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The spinner has bowled 9.4 overs from 3 matches and maintained an economy rate of 6.52.
He was instrumental in Pakistan's victory in their first super four match against India as the all-rounder did the job with both bat and ball. In fact, it was he who upset India's momentum both with the bat and ball.
India were on high, having made 62 runs within the batting powerplay. Nawaz then dismissed Suryakumar Yadav and bowled economically to stall India's surge towards a 200 + target.
With the bat as well, he was sent at number 4 to maintain the left-right batting combination and did an amazing job, smoking 42 off just 20 deliveries with the help of 6 boundaries and 2 sixes, going at a strike rate of 210.
It was his knock which meant that Pakistan were in a relatively comfortable position to chase down the target in the last over.
Nawaz has stepped up to the plate, particularly in the absence of Imad Wasim and his performances both in domestic cricket and International cricket have meant that he will now certainly make it to the Pakistan squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
