Cricket World Player of the Week - Rohit Sharma
In his first assignment as India's full-time T20I captain, Rohit Sharma ended up being the Player of the Series in India's clean sweep against New Zealand.
It is understandably tough for New Zealand that they had to turn up for an effectively meaningless T20I series just three days after a heartbreak in the final of the T20 World Cup.
With Devon Conway, Kyle Jamieson and Kane Williamson unavailable, the New Zealand side was quite weak going into the series but that does not take anything away from the spectacular cricket that India played after bowing out of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in the Super 12 stage itself.
Rohit Sharma failed to fire in India's first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand and so did India. Since then, he has found top form and finished as the second-highest run-scorer for India in the tournament with 174 runs at 34 and a strike rate in excess of 150.
He was the top run-scorer in the India-New Zealand series as well and was awarded the Player of the Series in his first assignment as India's full-time T20 International captain.
The Indians fans will only hope that the cricketing marriage of newly-appointed head coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma is just the beginning of bigger and better things to come for Indian cricket.
