Cricket World Player of the Week - Sunil Narine
Mystery spinner Sunil Narine played the central role in Kolkata Knight Riders' 4-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator of IPL 2021.
Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a good start, reaching close to 50 runs within the first five overs. But, once Sunil Narine entered the fray, Bangalore's run scoring dried out.
He snapped up four crucial wickets including that of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell and ripped out the heart of the RCB batting line-up.
If picking up four wickets while conceding just 21 runs was not enough, Narine came out to bat at number 5 and smashed 26 off 15 balls, including three consecutive sixes off Dan Christian which all but sealed the deal.
Narine ended up winning the Player of the Match award and quite deservedly so.
Having reworked his action after it was deemed suspect on a couple of occasions, the West Indies mystery spinner has picked up 14 wickets from 12 matches in IPL 2021 till now at an average of 22 and an excellent economy rate of 6.41. More importantly, he has delivered when it matters.
West Indies must be ruing the fact that Narine is not part of their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
