With an unbeaten 254 against South Africa, his seventh double century in Test cricket, Virat Kohli became the player to score the most double-hundreds for India and fourth highest overall.

It's amazing how we set different standards for different players or they set standards for themselves rather. And, once the bar is raised as high as some of these gifts talents do, even a slight blip leads to a sense of disappointment among fans.

Virat Kohli had gone without scoring a century in Test cricket for the last 10 innings. That was not a bad record by any stretch, especially given that he had scored three half-centuries in that period. However, fans who have come to expect a century from him in every second Test match were a bit disappointed with his returns.

The Indian skipper, captaining the Test team in his 50th Test, set the record straight with his seventh double century in Test Cricket, becoming the player to score the most double-hundreds by an Indian and fourth-highest overall. In the process, Kohli also went past the 7000-run mark in just 138 innings, the 4th fastest to do so.

His unbeaten 254 against South Africa in the Pune Test was also his highest Test score and the second highest for an Indian against South Africa after Virender Sehwag's 319. Kohli became the third-most successful Test captain after 50 Test matches as well, with 30 wins under his belt.
