Chetan Narula previews the first One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka to be played on Sunday exclusively for Cricket World from the picturesque venue in Dambulla.
Sri Lanka will be hoping to make amends for their poor show in the Test series during which they were whitewashed 0-3 by the number one ranked team.
The change in format will come as a big relief to the hosts as they are expected to be more competitive as seen during their Champions Trophy win over India in England.
Skipper Upul Tharanga has taken over the reins of the limited overs team full-time and will be wary of the fact that they need to win at least two games in the five match series to ensure they gain an automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup along with the other top seven ranked teams.
Chetan also pointed out that India have set their aims on the long term goal of the 2019 World Cup as they have rested a number of senior players including Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav. The series is expected to test the mettle out of young and inexperienced bowling attack according to Chetan.
