Cricket South Africa (CSA) today announced the home fixtures for both South Africa Women’s Emerging side and the Proteas Women for the 2019-2020 campaign, for the Bangladesh Emerging and Australia inbound tours scheduled for July 2019 and March 2020, respectively.

The SA Emerging squad will host their Bangladesh equivalents in three Women’s One-Day matches and three T20s to be held at the Groenkloof Oval and the Mandela Oval in Pretoria and Hammanskraal between 23 July – 04 August this year.

The side, which consists of identified players from the 2019 Powerade Women’s Academy intake, will be looking to improve on their impressive results from last year’s Emerging Tri-Series against England Women’s Academy and the Australia Shooting Stars.

Next year, Proteas Women are set to take on Australia in three Women’s One-Day Internationals (ODI) and in a three-match Women’s T20 International series from 19 March – 04 April 2020. The matches will be played across three venues, with Pietermaritzburg, East London and Benoni hosting two games apiece.

The 50-over matches will carry an added importance, with ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) points up for grabs. The T20s will follow soon after the forthcoming 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia (21 February – 08 March).

CSA High Performance Manager, Vincent Barnes commented:

“We are very excited to announce these two home tours, with more quality women’s cricket being played on home soil. We’ve seen some thrilling performances recently from our national team and the Australia tour will be another opportunity for them to impress in South African conditions against elite opposition,” he added.

“There’s a lot of cricket coming up for the Women’s team over the next two years, with the T20 World Cup next year and the Women’s World Cup in 2021, so it is important to ensure the development pipeline continues to produce and that is where the National Academy and the emerging side will prove to be pivotal.

“We have seen the likes of Nondumiso Shangase, Faye Tunnecliffe and Sinalo Jafta make their breakthroughs from the programme, going on to earn their national colours, so that is promising for the future,” Barnes concluded.
