Live Scores and Stats - CSK vs MI IPL 2021 Match 30

Both CSK and MI in top 4

When IPL 2021 kicked off in April this year, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore were the ones to wave the green flag. The second installment of the IPL will see Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings go up against each other in what is known as the league's El Clasico.

Chennai Super Kings have found a second lease of life after struggling throughout IPL 2020. Had it not been for a Kieron Pollard masterclass, the team would have been sitting at the top of the points table. They are still quite comfortably replaced with five wins from 7 matches and need to win 3 out of the remaining 7 matches to qualify for the playoffs.

CSK will face defending champions Mumbai Indians whose batting let them down in the first installment of the tournament. Still, the team finds a place in the top half with four wins from 7 matches.

Faf an injury doubt

Chennai will continue to open with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis. du Plessis, however, led St Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League and missed out in the knockouts due to a groin injury and is a doubt for the first match.

Moeen Ali has been well utilized by CSK at Number 3 and has delivered. Perhaps, this is the freedom that the easy-on-the-eyes all-rounder needs to prosper. Suresh Raina will be under some pressure at Number 4 with him averaging 24 in the first half. Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja slot in at 5, 6 and 7.

2 spots, 5 in contention

Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar will be the two Indian pace bowlers in the CSK XI. They will then have to pick between Sam Curran, Lungi Ngidi, Dwayne Bravo, Josh Hazlewood and Imran Tahir for the remaining two spots.

Curran and Bravo are likely to start, but expect Hazlewood to play a big part later.

 Can MI's middle order fire?

Mumbai Indians' middle order batsmen Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya struggled in the first half and will look to return to their explosive best on the flat pictures of the UAE.

Their top 3 in Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Kumar Yadav is as settled as it can get. MI have a destructive middle order with Pollard and the Pandya brothers featuring.

Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar will be joined by either Adam Milne or Nathan Coulter-Nile. Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya will have to deliver 4 overs between them. Will junior Pandya bowl? Perhaps, two overs per match.
