CW® County Player Of The Week - Andrew Gale
Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale has been named as the Cricket World® County Player Of The Week after he led his side to a vital County Championship win over Nottinghamshire that threw the title race wide open.
Gale scored an unbeaten 151 after his bowlers had dismissed Nottinghamshire for just 59 on the opening morning. Gale then reached a new career-best score, facing 176 balls and guiding his side to 264 in reply and a huge first-innings lead.
Although Nottinghamshire then scored 413 in their second innings, Yorkshire went on to win by five wickets and Gale will lead his side against Kent in the final match of the season with Yorkshire just seven points behind leaders Nottinghamshire and five behind Somerset in second place.
There will be no double celebration for Yorkshire this season, however, as they were knocked out of the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition by Warwickshire this weekend, Gale's contrribution being 30 at the top of the order before Warwickshire ran out four-wicket winners.
Other contenders for the award this week were Owais Shah, Toby Roland-Jones, Shakib Al Hasan, Marcus Trescothick, Ben Harmison, Mooen Ali and Murali Kartik.
