CWC 2019 Recap: Bangladesh beat South Africa, but it's no upset
A Cricket World series, CWC 2019 Recap looks at all the high-octane encounters from the last year's ODI World Cup: from Jofra Archer's bouncers to Rohit Sharma's hundreds and from Mitchell Starc's yorkers to Virat Kohli's antics.
Bangladesh 330/6 (50)
South Africa 309/8 (50)
Result - Bangladesh won by 21 runs
Player of the Match - Shakib Al Hasan
Just imagine how irritating it would be for a team, if they keep their best foot forward, bowl impeccably, bat faultlessly and field immaculately. And, at the end of it all, when they win, it is termed as an upset!
Bangladesh's 21-run win over South Africa in the fifth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was no upset. The batsmen set it up for them, with measured knocks and the bowlers never allowed the Protea batsmen to get away.
Seasoned pros Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, batting at number three and number four, were the top scorers for Bangladesh, both scoring 70s. This was the beginning of something special from Shakib Al Hasan as he would go on to make the tournament his own.
South Africa had only themselves to blame as each of Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen, JP Duminy and David Miller got starts but threw it away. Mustafizur Rahman was Bangladesh's top wicket-taker.
