Shikhar Dhawan has the knack of rising to the occasion at the big stage. The southpaw averages more than 53 in World Cup games, 65+ in ICC events and over 75 in ICC events in England. In the 14th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between India and Australia at the Kennington Oval, he was at the centre of another Indian victory at the World Cup.
After being hit by a steeply rising bouncer, Dhawan batted on and scored a dashing 117 off 109 balls. Explosive knocks from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya then took the Indian score past 350.
With knocks from David Warner 56 and Steven Smith 69, Australia were always in the game, even when Alex Carey blasted 55 off just 35 deliveries, but the dismissal of Glenn Maxwell by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 41st over left them with a bit too much to do.
India's new-ball bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets each as the team won by 36 runs.
Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the tournament after this match as he broke his thumb, but with the Man-of-the-match winning century in this game, he ensured that India were on track for the semis.
