CWC 2019 Recap: The India v Pakistan clash - great cry and little wool
The 22nd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was touted as a marquee clash. Despite the knowledge that the rivalry had not lived up to the expectations in recent time, there were a buzz around the ground.
India 336 – 5 ( Rohit Sharma 140, Virat Kohli 77, KL Rahul 57; Mohammad Amir 3-47)
Pakistan 212 – 6 (Fakhar Zaman 62)
Result - India won by 89 runs (D/L)
The encounter at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester was sold out and the stadium was jam packed. All one could see around was Blue and Green. As the match progressed, the Green began to depart, and the Blue was triumphant.
Batting first, India got off to a great start. Openers Rohit Sharma (140) and KL Rahul (57) added 136 runs for the opening stand. Virat Kohli also contributed with 77 as India posted a strong 336-5 despite Mohammad Amir's 3-47.
Apart from Fakhar Zaman's 62 and Babar Azam's 48, there wasn't much to show for Pakistan. The two were going great guns and the match was very well poised when left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav disturbed Azam's timber with a googly - what was possibly the ball of the World Cup.
Imaz Wasim made 46 but it was too late by then as Indian beat Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method) to keep their spotless World Cup record against the rivals intact.
