Afghanistan 172 (Hashmatullah Shahidi 57; Jimmy Neesham 5-31, Lockie Ferguson 4-37)
New Zealand 173-3 (Kane Williamson 73*, Ross Taylor 48; Aftab Alam 3-45)
Result – New Zealand won by 7 wickets
In the 13th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between Afghanistan and New Zealand at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton, it was easy going for the Black Caps. After bowling out the Afghans for just 172, they chased down the target in just 32.1 overs.
Afghanistan actually got off to a very good start, but they slumped from 66/0 to 70/4, thanks to Jimmy Neesham, who later went on to claim his maiden ODI fifer. Lockie Ferguson finished with four wickets, while Hashmatullah scored a fifty to stretch the total to 172.
In reply, Guptill was out first ball and Munro departed fairly early, but Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor ensured the going was smooth. Williamson hit the winning runs having completed his 38th ODI fifty.
New Zealand won all of their first three games and climbed to the top the points table. But their remaining games were going to be tougher.
