Dale Steyn gets to 400 Test wickets
Fast bowler Dale Steyn became the second South African player to take 400 Test wickets, when he dismissed Tamim Iqbal on the first day of the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Steyn, who now has 402 wickets from 80 matches, at an excellent average of 22.49, with 25 five-wicket hauls and five 10-wicket hauls, is the 13th player in the history of the game to have reached the landmark.
Steyn bowled a fuller length delivery wide outside off to induce a drive from Tamim, who only managed to edge one to Hashim Amla at slips, who made no mistake.
The 32-year-old, regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers of this era, is the joint second fastest bowler to reach the landmark, equaling New Zealand legend Sir Richard Hadlee.
Steyn has just taken 16,685 deliveries to reach the landmark of 400 wickets, becoming the only bowler in the history of cricket to achieve the feat in less than 20,000 balls.
Among the players with more than 200 Test wickets, Steyn stands apart as the bowler with the best strike rate, snaring a wicket every 41.7 deliveries.
Steyn is now just 20 scalps away from overtaking Shaun Pollock to become South Africa’s all-time highest wicket-taker.
