Darren Gough picks Essex to win against Warwickshire
Former England fast bowler Darren Gough is backing Essex to win their quarter-final fixture against Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Wednesday.
Both Essex and Warwickshire won four games each in the group stages and will face each other in Birmingham for a spot in the semi-final.
Gough picked Tom Westley and Dan Lawrence as the key players for Essex and said that one of the two needs to shine with the bat for the team to succeed.
On the other hand, Gough feels that the experience of Jonathan Trott, Ian Bell and Rikki Clarke will be key for Warwickshire.
“Warwickshire vs Essex – two very strong sides,” Gough told Unibet.
“I am going to go slightly different here.
“(With) Essex, I am going with Tom Westley and Dan Lawrence, one of them needs to go big.
“(Graham) Napier, it is his last season, so every game will be a fairy-tale game for him.
“Warwickshire (are) very experienced.
“Jonathan Trott, Ian Bell and Rikki Clarke are the star players for them.”
However, Gough added that Warwickshire’s bowling attack is not as strong and is backing Essex to emerge victorious in the contest.
“I think their (Warwickshire) bowling is not as strong as they like it to be.
“I am going to go for Essex to win again.”
The first and second quarter-finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup will be played on 17th August while the third and fourth quarter-finals will be held on 18th August.
