Peshawar Zalmi have confirmed that former West Indian skipper Darren Sammy will take over as the captain of the side for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League.

The decision comes after Shahid Afridi, who led Peshawar Zalmi in the inaugural edition decided to step down from the role. Despite topping the group stage with six wins from eight matches, Afridi's men failed to make it to the final after losing both the play-offs games.

Afridi scored just 87 runs in the previous season and also picked 10 wickets from as many games.

Sammy became the first captain to win two World Twenty20 titles when West Indies won the 2016 edition in India earlier this year and has captained St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League as well.

Apart from Afridi and Sammy, the Zalmi's have also retained Mohammad Hafeez, Chris Jordan, Tamim Iqbal, Kamran Akmal, Junaid Khan, Imran Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Asghar from the previous season.

Further they have exchanged the England pair of Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow with Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales while Afghanistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan are the other additions from the draft process that took place on Wednesday in Dubai.
