DC vs RCB IPL 2021 Preview: Truckload of runs expected on batting-friendly Ahmedabad pitch
With Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore grappling for batting momentum on slow surfaces, the next leg of the IPL moving to Ahmedabad comes like a breath of fresh air.
DC leapfrog RCB
Delhi Capitals' victory in the one-over Eliminator again Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last match and Royal Challengers Bangalore's massive defeat against Chennai Super Kings in their last one has meant that both teams are now equal on 8 points each, with Delhi Capitals even leapfrogging Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021 points table.
Richardson and Zampa fly back home
Bangalore have been trying to mix and match their overseas players over the last couple of matches. They have shuttled between Dan Christian and Kane Richardson and will stick with Christian now after Richardson and Adam Zampa have decided to fly back home.
Bangalore have tried several players at the number three spot as floaters in order to set the stage for Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. With the experiment of promoting Washington Sundar to number 3 not bearing fruit in the last match, Bangalore are likely to bring back Shahbaz Ahmed in their playing XI.
Navdeep Saini went for plenty in his couple of overs, which means that RCB will have to revert to their previous combination.
Ashwin's break clears way for Mishy, Patel
Delhi Capitals brought in all rounder Axar Patel in place of Lalit Yadav in the last match. Yadav had been bowling quite well, but with last year's champion performer Patel having completely recovered from his bout of COVID-19, the move was a no-brainer.
In what comes as big news, Ravichandran Ashwin has decided to take a break from IPL 2021 to be along with his family which is fighting COVID-19. Ashwin has left the bio secure bubble after the Chennai leg, which clears away for Amit Mishra and Axar Patel to play together.
Nortje, Umesh or Ishant?
The Capitals will now consider either bringing back Lalit Yadav or playing someone like Umesh Yadav or Ishant Sharma in his place. They can also bring in Ajinkya Rahane in place of Steve Smith, who did a fine job in the last match, and slot back Anrich Nortje into their playing XI.
Shikhar Dhawan has been the most successful batsman for Delhi Capitals. The southpaw has scored more than 250 runs and his opening partnership with Prithvi Shaw sets the stage beautifully for Delhi.
