Derbyshire Announce Signing Of Doshi And Sadler

Derbyshire County Cricket Club has completed two major signings with the capture of Nayan Doshi and John Sadler. Left arm spinner Doshi, aged 29, joins the county from Surrey, while Sadler, aged 25, a left handed batsman, arrives from Leicestershire. Nayan Doshi arrives at the County Ground with a well deserved reputation for being one of the best bowlers in Twenty20 cricket. He has taken 53 wickets in the shortest format of the game at an astonishing average of just 14.66. In First Class cricket he took 51 wickets at an average of 28.11 in 2006 and was capped by Surrey but last season found his opportunities limited and has elected to further his career with Derbyshire ahead of several other counties. John Sadler began his career at Yorkshire before moving to Grace Road where he became an integral part of their side, including the county’s Twenty20 Cup triumphs in 2004 and 2006. He averages 34.15 in First Class cricket and enjoyed two excellent years in 2005 and 2006 averaging close to fifty in both seasons. Last season he scored an outstanding 113 not out off 116 balls against Derbyshire in the Friends Provident Trophy Head of Cricket John Morris said: ‘I am delighted that we have been able to bring these two quality players in the prime of their careers to Derbyshire. They will be outstanding additions to our squad in terms of their ability on the field but also what they will add off it. ‘Statistics don’t tell you everything but if you look at both of these players their careers were flourishing before disrupted seasons in 2007, even then they both managed to turn in some outstanding performances. ‘They have come to Derbyshire to have the opportunity to play in all forms of the game and be a part of what we are striving to achieve here – a side capable of competing with and beating the best. I am confident that Nayan and John, and the further signings we expect to make in the near future, will help us achieve that.’ Chairman Don Amott said: ‘These signings indicate that we are very ambitious looking toward next season and beyond. We have put a structure in place that will allow us to compete for the best players available and we have every confidence that John and Nayan, and the other new additions we will announce soon, will ensure our progress on the pitch starts to match what we are achieving off it.’ © Derbyshire CCC
