Hurt, 28, will come straight into the squad to face Nottinghamshire in the final fixture of the opening block of LV= County Championship cricket before the Vitality Blast begins, following the recurrence of a hamstring injury to Ryan Sidebottom.

The right-arm quick has previously played three first-class matches, claiming best figures of 4-27 during Lancashire’s Bob Willis Trophy campaign in 2020.

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “I’ve been impressed with our bowling so far this season in what has often been batting-friendly conditions.

“While Ben Aitchison’s recovery from injury is progressing well and Luis Reece returned to bowl a handful of overs last week, our core attack have had a heavy workload and Liam will bring a different dimension to the unit while we assess the injury to Ryan Sidebottom.

“Liam is a good fast bowler with plenty of talent, so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do for us this week.”

Hurt added: “I’m keen to play more first-class cricket and there’s a great setup at Derbyshire with Mickey Arthur and his coaching staff.

“The Club have made a good start to the season and I hope to contribute this week and also test myself again in the red ball format.”
