Dhammika Prasad to miss second tour match against Leicestershire
Prasad bowled 17.3 overs in the game against Essex before he went off the field and subsequently it was announced by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that the pacer will undergo scans on his shoulder.
“Sri Lankan fast bowler Dhammika Prasad, who went off-field during the final session of play last evening (9th) due to a sore shoulder, has been attended to by team medical staff headed by Physio Steve Mount, and will undergo a precautionary scan this afternoon (Local time) to ascertain injury if any,” said the SLC release on Tuesday.
Later, SLC updated the status of Prasad on their twitter account and said that the scan was inconclusive and clarified that the 32-year-old will not take part in the second tour match.
“Update: @imDhammika scan inconclusive, further assessment in Leics. Will not play 2nd practice game.”
Buoyed by centuries from Jaik Mickleburgh and Tom Westley, Essex piled on 412 for four before declaring and Sri Lanka replied with 42 for two in the second innings before rain ended the game in a draw.
With 41 wickets from nine matches in 2015, Prasad was Sri Lanka’s best Test bowler and was among the top 10 leading wicket takers last year in the longer format.
