By leading his side to a comprehensive nine-wicket win at Edgbaston which put them 3-0 up in the five-match series, he becomes India's most successful ODI captain, with 91 wins.
He overtook Mohammad Azharuddin but following the match, was quick to praise the efforts of all elements of his team rather than focussing on his record.
"We were not tested because our fast bowlers bowled well initially," he said when asked about whether he was concerned about the lack of challenge England are providing his team.
"When they didn't our spin bowlers took the initiative. So on and off it was good.
"Batting we have kept improving from the first game which I feel is important. Testing is something that is good, but you don't always want to be tested.
"You want to win games easily because that's what really matters. You don't want to hang on to the 49th or 50th over."
He added that the switch to one-day cricket has helped India, after struggling to follow up a Test win at Lord's, losing that series 3-1.
"We stuck to the basics and also we were quite focused on the present because we had a tough time in the Test series.
"The change of format also helps because this format pushes you to be expressive on the field. At the same time it pushes you to back yourself and play your shots."
