Didsbury Women’s Cricket Club was formed in 2010 in a bid to encourage more female players to try the sport.
After a year of training hard and playing friendlies against local teams, the women entered the Cheshire Women’s League Division 3 in 2012 and brought home the trophy as winners.
Something which was then repeated in 2013 as winners of Division 2! 2014 saw us playing at a much higher level but Didsbury didn’t finish the season trophy-less winning the prestigious award for the best ‘teas’!
The team consists of women from different sporting backgrounds, ages and ability and we are always on the look out for new blood. Whilst we do like to take our cricket seriously and put in a good performance the main thing is having fun whilst we do it! We are a social group and are always having banter whether it be on the field or on facebook and twitter all of which is documented in our super blog didsburywcc.wordpress.com.
As well as our celebrity fans on twitter, we managed to get England international Kate cross to do the ice bucket challenge, our biggest supporter is our woman of the match award - Alan the duck! His favourite moment was being photographed with the ladies Ashes trophy and meeting Charlotte Edwards.
We are extremely lucky to have such a supportive club behind us and without that, a lot of what we have achieved so far wouldn't have been possible. We hope to have a ladies second team, girls team and eventually become self funded one day - The future looks bright for DWCC!
