England v Australia - match abandoned
First One-Day International, Headingley

The first One-Day International between England and Australia at Headingley was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.

The match officials made a couple of inspections but with the ground already sodden and rain still falling - as it is across much of the Midlands and north of England - the decision was made shortly before 14:00 local time to call the game off.

The two sides now move on to Manchester, where Sunday's second ODI is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford.

The forecast is better for Sunday although there is a strong chance of rain arriving later in the day.

The series continues at Edgbaston (11th August), Cardiff (14th September) and Southampton (16th September).
