Scorecard

Jonny Bairstow hit a superb hundred for England to take England to a slight first day advantage over Sri Lanka. Earlier, England were in some trouble at 36-2 until Bairstow and Root put on 100 for the 3rd wicket. Joe Root 46 and Ben Stokes 57 and latterly Jos Buttler all supported Bairstow well.

England were 312-7, at the close of play, with Moeen Ali 23* and Adil Rashis 13*. Honours are probably even at this stage; however, if England can score another 50-70 runs on day 2, they will again be in control of this Test.
