England May Spring World Cup Surprise - Charlotte Edwards
Charlotte Edwards believes that England could spring a surprise in the fast-approaching World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The captain of England Women was speaking at Lord's as England's squad to tour New Zealand as part of the qualifying campaign for the 2017 Women's World Cup was unveiled.
Edwards will lead the side for a tour of three One-Day Internationals and five Twenty20 Internationals in February, during which time the men will be battling to reach the quarter-finals of their World Cup.
"I think they are going to better than everyone thinks they are," she said.
"They are probably happy that everybody has written them off," she added.
England open their campaign against Australia before also playing Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Scotland and Sri Lanka.
Edwards, who led England to victory in the 2009 Women's World Cup, as well as the Women's World Twenty20 later that year, says she believes they can go well.
"I'm confident they can do well...hopefully they are going to surprise a few people, and go a long way in the competition" she said.
