England 515 (Stoneman 111)
Tour game, Townsville, day three
Dawid Malan scored a fine century as England went on to post 515 runs following which the bowlers restricted Cricket Australia XI to 121 for three by stumps on day three of the tour game in Townsville.
England resumed the day with a score of 337 for three. Root (83) and Malan (109) continued to press on and added further 43 runs before the England skipper was snared by Simon Milenko (2-86).
A triple strike from Matthew Short (4-103) pegged England back but not before Malan went on to complete an impressive century with support from Chris Woakes (36) and Mason Crane (25 not out) as they went on to post 515 in 142.5 overs.
Short picked four wickets while Daniel Fallins (3-127) had three as well.
Trailing by a huge margin of 265 runs, Jake Carder (34) and Ryan Wilson (49) showed a lot of resilience with a 80 run opening stand that came off 20.2 overs. However, their momentum was dented when Moeen Ali (2-34) dismissed them both while Mason Crane (1-24) accounted for Will Pucovski (1) to leave the home side reeling at 87 for three.
Jason Sangha (26 not out) played out positively and with Short (8 not out) at the other end, Cricket Australia XI ended the day with a score of 121 for three and they still trail England by 144 runs.
