England Women 274-7 (Edwards 72, Marsh  67) beat
Ireland Women 127 (Delany 43, Colvin 2-31) by 147 runs
One-Day International, Kibworth

England Women proved to be far too strong for Ireland Women as they completed a 147-run victory in their final warm-up game ahead of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand which begins on 10th July.

Half-centuries from Charlotte Edwards and Laura Marsh - her maiden effort - enabled England to rack up 274 for seven and in reply Ireland were bowled out for 127, not helped after opener Clare Shillingford was forced to retire hurt having made five.

She did not return to bat and of the nine wickets to fall, left-arm spinner Holly Colvin took two of them with the other bowlers used - Katherin Brunt, Anya Shrubsole, Marsh, Danielle Hazell and Jenny Gunn - all taking a wicket apiece.

Leinster's Laura Delany top scored with 43 in 90 balls and she was one of only three players to reach double figures, the other two being Cecelia Joyce (27) and Melissa Scott-Hayward (23).

Earlier, Edwards hit a patient 72 in 101 balls before Marsh blasted 67 in just 55 balls with eight boundaries as Ireland failed to contain England with the ball.

Claire Taylor (27), Lydia Greenway (24) and Danielle Hazell (24 not out) also made handy contributions to drive England towards a winning score.

Jill Whelan and Isobel Joyce took two wickets apiece for the Irish.
