Both sides battled hard, on Day 1 of the 2nd Test between England and New Zealand , at Trent Bridge, after England had won the toss and elected to bowl.  At the close of play, New Zealand were 318/4 and had recovered well from being 169/4 at one stage, thanks to an unbeaten 149 run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell.
