Essex won the toss and decided to field at the Saffrons, Eastbourne this morning and it wasn’t long before they had Sussex 46-3 and in a bit of bother, thanks to Matt Coles taking the wickets of openers Luke Wells and Luke Wright.

Sussex 281-7 ( Laurie Evans 107*, Harry Finch 56; Ashar Zaidi 2-32, Neil Wagner 2-52)

Essex 285-6 (Tom Westley 88, Adam Wheater 60; Jofra Archer 2-53)

Result - Essex won by 4 wickets

However, a battling century by Laurie Evans (107*) supported by Harry Finch (56) and latterly Jofra Archer (33*)  helped Sussex to a defendable 281-7.

However, in reply Tom Westley (88) and Adam Wheater (60) took Essex to 282 with 2 overs to spare and it means Essex keep the possibility of reaching the One-Day Cup knockout stages.

Essex move up to third, in the South Group table, with a game to play against Kent this Wednesday. Sussex won just  two games in their Cup campaign this year.
