On Saturday a friendly game was arranged and hosted by Marsa CC between the players of the Marauders CC. There was a fantastic turn out and enough players for two full teams, which were split into Marauders A and Marauders B.

Marauders A batted first in the 25 over game. Matt McKeogh top scored with 33 which included three fours. Ian Pendelbury, batting at number eight, put on 20 valuable runs towards the end of the innings which also included three boundaries.

Earlier in the innings, four batsmen made it into double figures: Sean Byrne (13), Phil Gibbs (15), Owen Jones (16) and Mike Caruana (15), but did not capitalise on their score.

Will Thomas and Gareth Roberts made three and Jayden Roussouw made six. With extras, Marauders A made a good score of 147.

For Marauders B Ed Manning, Suhrid Roy and Sarfraz Ali all took two wickets each and Tom Newell took one. One must mention Suhrid Roy, being part of the nursery/academy, who bowled very well and deserved his two wickets.

The big question was whether the Marauders B team had enough batting. Well one batsman was almost enough as Tom Newell made 77 runs which included nine fours and two sixes. Anything which was slightly short was hitting the boundary wall.

He had to retire (local rule) and was back batting in the penultimate over, batting with the last batsman. He faced the last ball of the over and wanted desperately to take a run so he could face the last over where he would have needed 12 runs to win the game.

He hit the ball slighty wide of the bowler who ran, gathered the ball and quickly threw the stumps down at Newell's end who was sent back. That was the end of a great game.

Paul Bradley made 11 and Ed Manning 14. Clyde Roussouw, Gareth Kampff, John Claffey, Tom Atkins, Will Nichols, Sarfraz Ali, Cecilia Ritscher and Roy made a combined total of 24.

With extras, Marauders B totalled 135. For Marauders A, Mike Caruana took four wickets, Sean Byrne took two while Jayden Roussouw and Ian Pendelbury took a wicket each.

Next Saturday the Cric HQ MCA Summer league continues with Marsa playing Krishna in the morning game and Krishna then playing Marauders in the afternoon game.
