Live Scores and Stats - East Bengal Club and Tapan Memorial Club - Match 24

East Bengal Club have made a tremendous turnaround in their last few games with a cent percent win record. One of their key batsmen Shreevats Goswami has hit the purple patch after disappointing performances in the first few games. He is scoring at a healthy strike rate and laying a great foundation for his team to cash on the latter half of the innings. The return of Abhimanyu Easwaran has also given a new dimension for the East Bengal batting and provided them the much needed experience at the top of the order.

In their last game against Calcutta Customs Club, East Bengal won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch with an uneven bounce. The batsman in focus, Abhimanyu Easwaran got out to Bappi Manna for cheap but Shreevats Goswami carried his bat throughout most of powerplay overs giving the team a respectable start. After Sayan Shekhar Mandal was run out in a dramatic fashion, the East Bengal innings derailed and never found any momentum. They ended up scoring 118 runs in 20 overs.

Since the pitch was behaving absurd, East Bengal bowlers sniffed a chance at defending the low total of 118 against Calcutta Customs Club. The trio of Mukesh Kumar, Akash Pandey and Sujit Kumar Yadav bowled brilliantly and never let the opposition batsmen take attack to them. The three of them bowled economically in their spell and Calcutta Customs Club never got hold of any impressive strokes. In the end, Arnab Nandi used his experience well and bowled a wonderful spell of 4 overs giving away just 15 runs and picking up 2 wickets. In the end, East Bengal Club defended the score and bowled out Calcutta Customs Club for just 77 runs.

Tapan Memorial Club are placed on the top position now, thanks to the consistent performances by members like Sandipan Das Sr. and Shahbaz Ahmed. Apart from them, the player that has risen through the ranks and performed in the tournament is Ramesh Prasad. He has been consistent throughout the tournament and returned with impressive figures of 4 for 10 in 4 overs against Kalighat Club in the last match.

Bowling first against Kalighat Club, Nilkantha Das provided an early breakthrough for Tapan Memorial Club picking up a wicket on the very first ball that sent in-form Jayojit Basu packing. Vikash Singh supported Nilkantha well with the new ball and contained the batsmen well. However, it was Sandipan Das Sr. and Ramesh Prasad that ripped through the Kalighat Club lineup and bowled them out for 108 runs in 20 overs. Sandipan Das Sr. picked up 3 wickets in his spell while Ramesh Prasad took 4 important wickets.

Chasing the total, Tapan Memorial Club did experience a couple of hiccups and they were reduced to 84 for the loss of 8 wickets in the 18th over. When it looked impossible for Tapan to chase, P Barman came to his team’s rescue and smashed 25 runs off just 14 balls taking his team home with 1 ball to spare.

Tapan Memorial Club were missing the services of Shahbaz Ahmed in the last game and his return for the next game against East Bengal Club should definitely power pack the team for a great contest.
