Fantasy Cricket Match Predictions: Bob Willis Trophy 2020 - Essex vs Kent - Round 1
The Round 1 match of the Bob Willis Trophy 2020 between Essex and Kent, which takes the place of the County Championship 2020, will be played at the County Ground, Chelmsford.
Essex are entering the Bob Willis Trophy 2020 with big hopes, having won both the championship and the T20 Blast last year. The county drew its last game against Somerset on the back of a win by an innings and 40 runs against Surrey to seal the title.
Nick Browne and Alastair Cook, who was their top run-scorer last year with 913 runs from 14 matches at an average of 44.5, will continue to open the batting for Essex. Tom Westley, who generally comes out to bat at one drop, was also in fine nick last year with 794 runs and will be a vital cog in the team.
With the ball, the onus would be on Simon Harmer who set the Championship on fire last year and was also named among the Wisden's cricketers of 2019 as he topped the wicket charts with 83 wickets at an impressive average of 18.2, including as many as 10 five-wicket hauls. He will be assisted by Jamie Porter who also had a brilliant average of 25.70 last year.
Kent will be weakened in the absence of Zak Crawley and Joe Denly, but will hope Daniel Bell-Drummond (their top scorer last season) to fire. He forms a solid combination along with Heino Kuhn and Alex Blake.
Matt Henry, who was re-signed by Kent for his devastating swing, won't be available this season. That will not worry Kent much though as they already have Darren Stevens and Harry Podmore, both of whom picked up more than 50 wickets in the last season.
Let's have a look at the probable playing XI of both teams:
Essex - Nick Browne, Sir Alastair Cook, Tom Westley, Daniel Lawrence, Michael Pepper, Ryan ten Doeschate, Simon Harmer, Jamie Porter, Sam Cook, Peter Siddle, Ben Allison
Kent - Daniel Bell-Drummond, Oliver Robinson, Heino Kuhn, Alex Blake, Hamidullah Qadri, Jordan Cox, Darren Stevens, Ollie Rayner, Harry Podmore, Matt Milnes, Mitchell Claydon
