Final day washout denies New Zealand chance to level series
South Africa 314 & 80-5 (Patel 2-22) v
New Zealand 489 (Williamson 176)
Third Test, Hamilton, day five
Incessant rain led to a washout on the final day of the third Test between New Zealand and South Africa in Hamilton, thereby ending the game in a draw.
The result also meant, South Africa have clinched the three-match series 1-0 after their eight-wicket win in the second game in Wellington which now has taken them to the second position in ICC Test Rankings following Australia's defeat to India in the final Test in Dharamsala.
Overnight rain led to a delay in the start of the play and around 10:30am local time it started to drizzle, further dampening the hopes of play.
Even though around 1:00pm, the rain stopped and the covers were about to be lifted, it once again returned back leading to the abandonment of day's play 30 minutes later.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was adjudged the player of the match for his fabulous knock of 176 in the first innings of the game.
