Fitness Issues Plague Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Shami
Delhi Daredevils’ Indian Premier League campaign has been hit by the injuries to their premier fast bowlers Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Shami, both of whom missed their side’s first two matches.
While veteran seamer Zaheer has been suffering from a niggle, young sensation Shami has been troubled by a knee injury.
“Zaheer has a niggle but is progressing well and should be available for selection once the medical team has assessed him,” said a statement from the Daredevils team-management.
“Shami has a minor knee injury and is consulting a specialist for a quick recovery.”
According to reports, Zaheer’s brisk progress in fitness means that he will probably be available for selection for the Daredevils’ fifth league match.
However, there isn’t any update over the fitness of Shami who was impressive as India’s pace spearhead in the recently concluded World Cup.
Stressing on the importance of the pace duo in their lineup, Daredevils coach Gary Kirsten believes that his side will be a tougher unit once Zaheer and Shami return to the line-up.
“We look forward to the return of Zaheer and Shami to the playing XI,” said Kirsten.
“So far the bowling unit has stood up well and made the most of the opportunities.
“The most pleasing aspect of our bowling has been the performance of the spinners and the younger fast bowlers.”
Having lost both their matches of the 2015 IPL season, Daredevils next face Kings XI Punjab in Pune on 15th April.
