England opening batsman Alex Hales has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour of India after he sustained a fractured hand during the second One-Day International in Cuttack.

The 28-year-old suffered the blow while attempting a catch of MS Dhoni during the game while fielding in the deep. Even though he came to bat, he managed only 14 runs as England succumbed to a 15-run defeat in the match while chasing 382.

Jonny Bairstow, who was set to leave home after the ODI series will remain with the squad for the Twenty20 International series as well replacing Hales.

Bairstow might also be in contention to be included in the XI for the third game of the series in Kolkata while the other possible option will be Sam Billings, who opened for the team during their recent visit to Bangladesh.

Apart from the Hales blow, England skipper Eoin Morgan was fined 20 per cent of his match fees while the rest of his team-mates were slammed with 10 per cent fine for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second game.

Having already lost the series 2-0, England will be playing for pride when they take on India in the third and final ODI in Kolkata on Sunday.
