Franchises finalise squads as PSL draft ends

The franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) finalised their squads for the inaugural edition as the draft process came to an end at the end of day two.

The draft resumed with the Silver round after the franchises selected a total of nine players each from the Platinum, Diamond and Gold rounds on day one.

By the end of the silver round Lahore Qalandars added Zafar Gohar, Hammad Azam, Zia-ul-Haq, Zohaib Khan and Azhar Ali to their squad.

The five players that Quetta Gladiators picked in the Silver round are Bilal Asif, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Nawaz, Saad Nasim and Mohammad Nabi.

Peshawar Zalmi went with Aamer Yamin, Dawid Malan, Imran Khan Jr, Shahid Yousuf and Abdur Rehman to complete their five picks from the Silver round.

On the other hand, Karachi Kings bolstered their squad with the addition of Iftikhar Ahmed, Nauman Anwar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Usama Mir and Sohail Khan.

England’s Sam Billings was picked by Islamabad United in the Silver Round alongside Babar Azam, Imran Khalid, Kamran Ghulam and Umar Amin. 

After a break, the franchises returned for the Emerging round where they have to select two players each.

Islamabad added fast bowlers Ruman Raees and Amad Butt while Karachi picked Mir Hamza and a wicket-keeper in Safiullah Bangash.

Musadiq Ahmed and Hasan Ali were selected by Peshawar with Quetta opting for the duo of Akbar-ur-Rehman and Bismillah Khan.

After Lahore added off-spinner Adnan Rasool and Naved Yasin to their ranks, the draft process moved on to the supplementary round.

In the supplementary round, the teams had the option to pick four extra players including a foreign player to their initial squad of 16-members.

Islamabad picked Ashar Zaidi, Saeed Ajmal, Hussain Talat and Umar Siddiq in the supplementary round while Mohammad Asghar, Brad Hodge, Israrullah and Taj Wali were opted by Peshawar.

Lahore completed their draft process with after adding Abdul Razzaq, Mukhtar Ahmed, Ehsan Adil and Imran Butt as their supplementary players.

Karachi were able to pick only three supplementary players in Tillakaratne Dilshan, Shahzaib Hasan and Fawad Alam after running out of their allotted budget.

Another franchise to run out of their $1.1 million budget was Quetta, who went with Kumar Sangakkara, Aizaz Cheema and Rameez Raja Jnr as their three supplementary players.

A total of 98 players were selected in the draft process over the two days by the five PSL franchises for the tournament which gets underway in February.
