Cricket Ireland has opted to replace the injured seam bowler Mark Adair with left-arm spinner George Dockrell for the upcoming five-match One-Day International series against Afghanistan.

Adair, who is uncapped at the international level for the senior team, has withdrawn himself from the squad after suffering a back injury while playing for Warwickshire and is expected to be out of action for up to three weeks.

Ireland have opted for a spinner to replace Adair as the head coach John Bracewell feels that the wickets will be conducive for spin in the upcoming series.

Dockrell was already a stand-by player and he has been training with the squad as they prepared for the series against Afghanistan.

Graeme McCarter and Max Sorensen are the other two players who are currently on standby for the series.

This contest against Afghanistan is Ireland’s first-ever five-match ODI series and the games will be played between 10th and 19th July in Belfast.
