Georgia Atkinson the star as Typhoons quench the Scorchers fire

Georgia Atkinson delivered with both bat and ball in a Player of the Match performance as the Typhoons eased to an eight-wicket victory over the Scorchers in their Evoke Super 50 Cup clash in Pembroke.
Having taken 3-10 in the first innings, Atkinson then went on to score an unbeaten 71* as the Typhoons comfortably chased down 129.
Earlier, the Scorchers struggled to find any rhythm with the bat, with a 41-run second-wicket partnership between Gaby Lewis and Mary-Anne Musonda the best they could manage.
A late cameo from Ellie McGee ended when she fell to her Rush team-mate Atkinson, as the Scorchers were bowled out for 128 inside 38 overs, with Typhoons wicket-keeper Mary Waldron taking five excellent catches behind the stumps.
In reply, Typhoons openers Atkinson and Sarah Forbes combined for a 72-run stand, with Atkinson the aggressor in chief. Atkinson then brought up the fifty partnership with a wonderful reverse sweep shot off Aimee Maguire to third in the 11th over.
Atkinson was fortunate to have survived dropped catches on 18, and again on 44, and went on to post her half-century by sliding one down the leg-side for two.
With her eighth boundary of the day, down towards mid-wicket, Atkinson scored the winning runs as the Typhoons won by eight wickets.
