Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis star in 50-over practice match

Marcus Stoinis has made a strong case for recall to the Australian men’s white ball side with a dominant performance in the squad’s 50-over practice match in Southampton.

Glenn Maxwell made a century in his first game back in gold while Stoinis starred with bat and ball, taking 4-31 in seven overs for the Cummins XI and then making 87 from 71 balls with the bat.
He and Maxwell steered the Cummins XI to a two wicket win over the Finch XI. Maxwell’s 108 came from 114 balls. The pair put on 174 runs from just 153 balls for the third wicket.

It was a day for the all-rounders with Andrew Tye making 59 from 50 balls and Mitchell Starc 41 from 54 balls, helping the Finch XI to 249 all out from 48.4 overs.
Daniel Sams also contributed with bat and ball. He batted twice for 28 from 26 and 20 from 19. He bowled tightly despite Stoinis and Maxwell’s game-winning partnership.
Australia plays England in the first Vitality IT20 on Friday.
